RBC is one of Canada's largest banks, with over 20 million users. On the mobile experience, users must be protected from financial loss; two-layered security is crucial when logging in to accounts and ensuring proper authentication.
Problem and solution
We noticed a spike in online fraud at RBC, which is putting users' sensitive personal data at risk. Fraudsters have easy access to collect banking details or take over their accounts.
To protect users, 2FA offers an additional layer of security to verify that the user is the account's owner and not just someone who knows the correct password.
Redefining the TechFlow experience, our mission was to create an interface that not only facilitates tech exploration but transforms it into an immersive journey.

Learnings
Implementing 2FA within the RBC app was pivotal and represented a substantial project. With stakeholders and partners having a lot of assumptions, desires, and objectives, I primarily aimed to anchor discussions in user research insights. I ensured we remained focused and avoided veering off-course with new ideas. By prioritizing user-centric data, we streamlined the design iteration process and achieved consensus across all teams more swiftly than anticipated. Notably, this approach expedited decision-making and slashed the need for excessive meetings, allowing for greater focus on design refinement.
